BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I

Prerequisites: Completion of MAT 012, or permission of instructor

Human Anatomy and Physiology I is the first course of a two-course sequence that examines anatomical, histological, and physiological mechanisms of the human body. Topics covered include basic chemistry, cells, metabolism (basic), tissues, and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous (fundamentals), and cardiovascular systems. Emphasis is placed on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. While the lecture component emphasizes physiological concepts, the lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploring both gross and microanatomy of the systems as well as some basic physiological concepts. Three class periods (70 min each) and one three-hour laboratory period each week are provided. Students are required to co-register for a Peer Assisted Learning (BIO 201P) course that is designed to assist students in their learning of anatomy and physiology content.
