Temporary Load Reduction

At one or more points in a career a faculty member may need to temporarily reduce workload below full-time. That need may be based on professional or personal considerations, including health, child-rearing, or other family responsibilities. On the request of a tenured, tenure-track, or library faculty member, adjustments in workload and salary are made when it is possible to meet both individual wishes and institutional needs. Such arrangements, which may be for a term or an academic year, normally extend for no more than two years.
