SOC 200 Sociology of Health

This course is intended to introduce students to sociological perspectives on the study of health and illness in the context of the American health care system. The course will consider health, illness, sickness, and disease as social phenomena. In particular we will examine ways in which health and ideas about health and its causation are shaped by social context, culture, social structure, and social processes. We will consider social factors of health and illness, the meaning and experience of illness, and the social organization of health care including health care systems, settings, and technologies in the U.S. Meets ALE Perspective.
