HIS 127 Traces of the Global Past II

This class explores global history since 1500 through two themes: local lives and the development of the state. We interrogate new forms of power which helped to reshape global connections and explore the ways in which polities and societies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America engaged with and resisted the rise of European power and produced alternatives that deepened and challenged global engagement. In short, we are studying how worlds that were historically disconnected became part of a globalized world and how our globalized world has developed many fragmentations that have increased inequality. International Non-Western Perspective and Practical Reasoning Perspective. Noncredit for students who completed HIS 186 Global History Since 1450 in Spring 2021.
