BIO 338 Ornithology

Prerequisites: Bio 113 or permission of instructor.

A general exploration of the natural history, morphology, physiology, and ecology of birds will introduce the discipline of ornithology. Adaptation, speciation and radiation within the context of biogeography, feeding, reproduction and migration will be thoroughly examined. Initial laboratory exercises will underscore the critical connections between the physics of flight and avian anatomy and physiology. Identification of regional species via plumage and vocalization will thereafter be emphasized.
