ARH 232 Art of Ancient Greece & Rome

Prerequisite: GSTR 210

A study of the visual cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, focusing in particular on the civilizations of Greece and Rome from their earliest expressions through the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Architecture, sculpture, ceramics, painting, metalwork and mosaic (among other media) are discussed in their historical contexts. Attention will be paid to current issues related to ancient art, including looting, repatriation and other topics of cultural heritage. Arts Perspective and Western History Perspective.
