Exploring the Major — Students interested in this major should try to complete the first- and second-year Sociology requirements listed in “course sequencing considerations” below before applying for admission to the major.

Admission to the Major —  A grade of C or higher in SOC 100 and at least a C average in any other SOC courses).

Course Sequencing Considerations (in order to complete degree requirements within eight terms) — In the first year: SOC 100 and one distribution course. In the second year: Students should try to complete SOC 220 and two SOC distribution courses.  In the third year: SOC 350 and one or two distribution courses. In the fourth year: SOC 335 (Fall term), SOC 436 (Spring term), and any remaining distribution courses.

Proficiency Requirements for Retention in and Completion of the Major — In addition to completing specified course requirements, each student must satisfy departmental standards for effectiveness in communication.
